I personally have never been a fan of white bags because firstly, they look too stark; secondly, they dirty way too easily, and tend to yellow with age. However, this logic literally went out the window when I saw Bulgari’s latest Scaglie Beads Serpenti from the Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Perhaps it’s because I’m a sucker for a fuchsia-orange combo but against any other colour, and it wouldn’t pop nearly as much, don’t you think? Oh, and the “beads” aren’t really beads at all, at least, not in the traditional sense of the word. Instead, they’re actually coloured gemstones, and are available either in “warm” or “cold” colourways. The Warm Scaglie beads (above) comprise Fire Opal and Pink Spine Quartzes, while the Cold Scaglie Beads are of Emeral Green and Cloud Topaz stones for a Springtime vibe. And if you’re wondering whether they’re riveted onto the bags, they aren’t – each stone is actually individually secured by hand, into the dedicated slits made on the leather.
