Presenting: Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 2010

As we all know, Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2010 season has kicked off. And all of us fellow BagAddicts will know that there isn’t really much to look forward to (when it comes to bags) at New York Fashion Week (or also known officially as Mercedes Fashion Week), except Marc Jacobs.

Today, I’ll be presenting to you the Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 2010 collection as the first ever post for this blog. Enjoy!

The Verdict: For S/S 2010, Marc Jacobs seems to favour Metallic hand-held totes and Boston-shaped bags. However, although MJ seems to be keeping the knotted handled trend for his totes and sling bags in nylon.
This season, a Marc by MJ staple on the runway seems to be missing…. yup, you’ve guessed it, Miss Marc is MIA. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Miss Marc, she’s a cartoon-like character that appears in every Marc by MJ collection in each and every season (albeit in different outfits, personalities, and with different “occupations”). Also, with this S/S 2010 collection, it is difficult to pinpoint an underlying theme that summarises the collection as a cohesive whole. Instead, it seems as if MJ is throwing in odd studded bags together with multicoloured prints, and metallics.
Perhaps the only obvious trend that this collection sports is the general shape of the bags – whether in metallic or nylon, it seems as if the key shape and style for this S/S collection appears to be, imho, inspired by the laptop bag: the rectangular shaped tote with double-zip enclosures.
