#PFW: Kenzo Spring/Summer 2013 BAGS!
From Kenzo’s Spring/Summer 2013 invite with the tiger with a gleaming eye, what came to mind was “Eye of the Tiger” and everyone anticipated a wild ride ahead. And what we expected, Kenzo certainly delivered – and whole jungle indeed was released onto the runway. A slew of graphic animal prints came down the runway in bright colours like cobalt, neon orange, red and turquoise. The bags, too, came in matching prints.
The Verdict: I’m alright with snakeskin in different colours, but I usually don’t like coloured animal prints like leopard and zebra in fuchsia or any colour combo except those that actually are in the natural leopard brown-black combo and the black-white combo for the zebra. What I favour even less, is a combination of animal prints or skins on the same bag (i.e. snake and leopard, zebra and leopard/python) because, to me, it seems like a cross-breeding project gone wrong resulting in a sort of identity crisis that comes off as neither leopard nor snake but in an aberrant state of liminality. It’s this state of in-betweenness that bothers me the most.
Because of this, I’m on the fence with Kenzo’s SS13 bags because while I don’t favour the shoulder bags with the leopard-zebra, I’m all for the futuristic looking clutch with the hand-slot. And my absolute fave? The colour blocked hand-painted snakeskin version!
