Personalised Bags

My very first post for 2011! What better way that to kick-start the year by adding personal touches to our bags? ;D

Designer bags and luggage have become so ubiquitous these days that there is a need to put our own personal touch to set ourselves apart from others, and to mark it as something that is distinctively yours and yours alone. And that’s what today’s post is all about: personalisation, and the brands that offer customisation services.

Louis Vuitton’s Mon Monogram
Vuitton launched the Mon Monogram service rather recently, and yes, this has been made available in Malaysia earlier this year. The new Gardens boutique has an area dedicated to this service, where you can choose a total of 3 colours from a palette of 18 colours which will be hand-painted onto the bag – a main colour, a colour for the stripe, and for your initials (maximum of 3 initials). Customisation is available for monogram canvas bags in 3 styles: the Neverfull, the Speedy, and the Keepall. However, please note that you cannot bring in your existing Vuitton bag, as this is a bespoke range (ie. made to order). Orders take up to 8 weeks.
The Neverfull GM retails for RM3,900 while the Speedy 30 retails at RM3,400.

Fendi’s Classico BagsFendi also offers personalisation services for the Classico Bags which take centrestage this Fall/Winter 2010. Your initials will be stamped onto the hangtag that comes with each Classico bag, and thus acts as a luggage tag of sorts. A maximum of 3 initials is allowed. Fonts are standard size and will be hot stamped in gold. This service is entirely FREE and the process takes up to 2 weeks.

LongchampMass-market semi-designer French leather goods brand Longchamp also offers personalisation services for their renowned nylon Le Pliage totes and the lesser known Le Cabas leather range. Both can be customised in 4 simple steps: choose your bag, choose your handles (short or long), choose your colour combination, and choose your initials/text. Orders take 5 weeks to complete, however, this service is currently unavailable in KL. The nearest country where this service is offered is in Singapore. Prices for each vary depending on the style of the bag. Click here for more info or email custombags@eshopping.longchamp.com for more details.

GoyardNot many in KL are aware of this French leather goods company, perhaps due to the brand not being as widespread as the others. Goyard actually shares a similar history with Vuitton (they were also founded around the same time), which had its beginnings as a luxury trunks and luggage company. Almost all their bags feature the signature Goyard “Y” monogram in an assortment of colours.

Their most popular bag by far is the St. Louis tote (which is similar in style and shape to the Neverfull, minus the drawstring). Mostly made of coated canvas these bags don’t come cheap – they retail at around RM6,000++ a pop.

As can be seen from the photo below which features Diane Kruger, Goyard’s customised bags are indeed almost identical to Vuitton’s Mon Monogram. However, that is where their similarities with Vuitton end. Goyard also offers a more personalised customisation, meaning to say that should you want to print a crest, your coat-of-arms, or even a skull with crossbones on your bag, they’d be more than happy to oblige.

Goyard is said to re-open in Hong Kong in 2011. Rumour has it that Goyard will also be opening in Singapore during the third quarter of 2011 (however, I cannot confirm this).
