Montblanc Launches Monogrammed Bags
Montblanc has launched the new M_Gram 4180 Collection of unisex leather goods including bags and SLGs. And if you’re wondering why it’s called the M_Gram, yep, you guessed it, that’s because it’s the Maison’s collection featuring a new all-over monogram that appears as diagonal strips across all the items from the collection.
While Montblanc is an iconic brand that carries so much meaning to so many people, we felt it was time to introduce a new signature logo pattern to give a new generation of Montblanc customers an exciting identity to rally around ~ Nicolas Baretzki, Montblanc CEO ~
Apart from being a monogram, it’s also called the M_Gram because it’s made up of a two-toned black and blue M-pattern derived from graphic typography in Art Deco style is inspired by geometry from Montblanc’s archives, particularly the Montblanc woodwork that was developed in the 1920s. The 1920s was also significant for the Maison because it was when they ventured into the world of leather goods (1926).
What differentiates our graphic typography from other logo-driven monograms is the idea of not constructing something entirely new but rather converting existing typography through inspiration. With a heritage that spans nearly 115 years, there was so much to draw from to create a new pattern that is certainly inspired by history but that looks to the future of the Maison ~ Zaim Kamal, Montblanc Creative Director~
Set to become one of its classic ranges, the leather goods from the M_Gram Collection are made from PVC coated-canvas, making them scratch- and water-resistant (up to a certain extent). The bags and SLGs are also finished off with black leather trims and Montblanc’s logo script in white on the front of each piece, together with its iconic emblem. The M_Gram’s product offerings include backpacks, a document case, belt bag, pouch, duffle bag, tote, portfolio, crossbody bag, as well as wallets, credit card holders, business card cases, a passport holder, and a smart watch strap.
