As you saw in the teaser video, Burberry has transformed its show space this season. A blush-toned backdrop, the new seating positions, and a slightly more meandering runway than we are used to seeing. This has created a more intimate setting, which is also reflected in the live performance by Jake Bugg, who provided the soundtrack to the runway show, as he performed solo on his acoustic guitar.

In line with the integrated Burberry lineup featuring looks from not just Prorsum, but also the Brit and London lines, the brand’s Autumn/Winter 16 collection was quite different from the usual Burberry aesthetic that we have become used to seeing. Entitled A Patchwork, the collection is said to be “a mix of patterns and textures influenced by British artists, musicians, and history”, where python trenchcoats and details metallics, military coats, checks, fringe, parkas, and sequins dominated with a few trompe l’oeil dresses thrown into the mix. In short, it was a sparkly, glittery, and colourful collection!

The bag of the season also takes after the collection’s theme. Called “The Patchwork”, the small accordion bag with a chunky belted detail on the flap and a thick shoulder strap is made of a hodgepodge of fabric, leathers, and exotic skins, where no two styles are the same. Individually named after British streets, towns and villages, the Patchwork is available for pre-order from Wednesday 24 February, to March 7.
