RIMOWA x Alex Israel Limited Edition Luggage Collection

RIMOWA has collaborated with artist Alex Israel on the brand’s first ever collection of gradient coloured suitcases. The collection, which made its debut at the recent inaugural edition of the Frieze Art Fair in Los Angeles earlier this year, these ombré luggage cases draw inspiration from the LA sunset.

Known for his signature colourful art pieces, LA-based Israel adapted the 2 colour palettes utilised for his Sky Backdrop  and Untitled (Flat) paintings to the suitcases, made possible by new printing techniques that enabled him to transfer the very same colours onto aluminium. And it’s not just the case that gets the colourful treatment. Look closely, and you’d notice that these wheelies also come with matching coloured wheels, a custom luggage lining, and a set of luggage tags, with one of his multi-coloured profile. Each of these Limited Edition cases comes with a set of stickers featuring graphic illustrations of several iconic LA landmarks, and Israel’s artworks. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the sizes this comes in, it’s available in RIMOWA’s Cabin Plus model, which is the carry-on cabin size.

I imagined these suitcases by answering a simple question: What’s the suitcase I’d want to look at and wheel through LAX? And the answer, for me, so often comes back to the sky over Los Angeles – it’s just my favourite thing to look at ~ Alex Israel~

Though these beautiful ombré versions of the Cabin Plus will be dropping in stores really soon, it’s unfortunately will not be available in Malaysia. But if you really want to get your hands on these, you can head on over to Japan to score them.

We’re incredibly proud to team up with Alex Israel, one of the world’s most exciting artists, to launch an innovative experience during the week of the inaugural edition of Frieze art fair in LA. As strong admirers of his work, we were thrilled to develop a collaboration, which is probably the best engineered suitcase we have ever built. This is unique for both Alex and RIMOWA, and celebrates the vibrant aesthetics and interesting personality of Los Angeles, which is year after year at the centre of culture in the US ~ Alexandre Arnault, RIMOWA CEO ~
