Loewe’s Spirited Away Capsule Drops Globally Today!
Mention Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli and almost everyone will tell you that not only are they a fan of one of their animated films, but also their soundtracks/film scores. Well, guess what? After the success of Loewe‘s Totoro Capsule launched exactly a year ago, the Maison is back with another Studio Ghibli collaboration, this time featuring the characters of another Ghibli favourite, Spirited Away.
Featuring the movie’s most iconic characters, including the young protagonist Chihiro, mysterious Haku, sorceress Yubaba, Kaonashi the faceless spirit, Fly-Bird, and the Susuwatari soot sprites, on Ready-to-Wear such as hoodies, t-shirts, cardigans, culottes, oversized jumpers, denim trousers and puffers – all of which in a relaxed style); blankets; scarves; SLGs; and of course the bags (both in leather and canvas iterations) including totes, the Amazona, Puzzle, Hammock and Flamenco. These characters are rendered as jacquard, print, appliqué and patch, leather marquetry, or embroidery, while the landscapes serve as allover prints. The Susuwatari transform into three dimensional pompoms, or as tufty bags.
In line with all things Japanese, Loewe artisans also incorporated the Japanese “boro” technique which utilises mended and indigo-dyed scraps patchwork together, creating intarsia of Kasuri textiles and Anagram jacquard canvas on both the clothing and the bags. We had the opportunity to check out the collection earlier this morning, and let me tell you, they certainly came to life and are every bit as magical as they were in the cartoon.
