Kate Spade’s Spring 2013 Bags!

Kate Spade Creative Director Deborah Lloyd and Brad Goreski

Kate Spade’s Spring 2013 collection lands in stores today, and this season is especially meaningful because it’s the brand’s 20th Birthday!  In the spirit of Kate Spade’s 20th Anniversary, the Spring 2013 collection is a celebration of all our favourite things. Inspired by Kate Spade Creative Director Deborah Lloyd’s favourite things such as Ormond Gigli’s photo “Girls in Windows” shot in NYC in 1960 (see below), the collection focuses on streamlined silhouettes, a mix of floral and graphic prints in candy-popping colours like shocking pink and cobalt blue that have been paired with Mint Cream, Orange Whip, Strawberry Sundae and Lemon Soufflé. Bold and fanciful colours, no doubt, but no surprises here, because after all, Kate Spade really lives up to their motto: “Live colourfully”.

And now, here are some of MY favourite things from Kate Spade’s Spring 2013 a.k.a. the 20th Anniversary collection.

I love all of Kate Spade’s “Call to Action” bags (remember the one that said “Eat Cake For Breakfast” from past seasons?) but the one that I thought was the cutest, is this one because of the most definitely intentional “in your face” sorta pun that comes with it. The “that’s the Last Straw” statement usually used to reprimand others with becomes cheeky and witty, and draws attention to the straw base. Very clever!

Lately, I find myself drawn to old school comic-typed illustrations, and this is absolutely why this “Daycation Bon Shopper” made it into my Kate Spade Spring 2013 favourites list. You can practically form your own story with this one, my take on it? Well, either Chad is breaking up with the woman, or cancelling a date. What do you think?

Hardback book clutches have been around for quite awhile now, but Olympia Le Tan made them trendy. Love the “memoir” entitled “I Married Adventure” because you can read it in in various ways. Perhaps you are married, and therefore, marriage is an “adventure” that you have chosen to embark on, or could it be that your husband is Mr. Adventurous?, or maybe you’re single because you choose to be, and life IS your very own adventure. These are how I read that statement, but I’d love to hear some of your interpretations though!

I love bows, and the way that it’s done on this “Hope Avenue” bag is so different from your average sort, which makes it super elegant and feminine. It’s huge in comparison to the size of the bag itself, but it never feels like it’s bigger than the bag itself. Love.

No one does quirky quite the way Kate Spade does, and the glasses on this clutch although not exactly the same, kinda reminds me of Dame Edna Everage‘s glasses. Super cute, you can use this as a clutch, a case for your specs, or even as a pencilcase or a bag for your beauty essentials.

We are so taken up with modern communications that we often forget how the technologies of yesteryear ever looked like. This super-slim “Radio Samira” clutch pays tribute to the vintage radio of the bygone era. Too skinny for your evening necessities, then use it as a card case! ;D
