Event Post: Gucci’s Jackie Special Display @ KLCC
On Thursday 17 May, Gucci held an exclusive press preview followed by a VIP preview after that. Held at the KLCC store, the event was an exhibit of sorts, showcasing the iconic Jackie bag, with an entire wall dedicated to it. The “Jackie Special Display” featured archive pieces of the the bag along with celebrity photos.

When it was first introduced in 1958, it was initially named G 1907, and wasn’t until 1961 until it was renamed as the “Jackie” after Jacqueline Onassis because she was frequently spotted with the bag. Gucci then made a business decision to name the G 1907 bags that were made prior to 1961 as the “Bouvier” as
that was Jackie O’s surname (Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy through her marriage to then American President, John F. Kennedy) before her marriage to Aristotle Onassis.
Featured below, the Bouvier from the late-1950s, also known as the original FIRST Edition version of the bag. Notice the hook clasp.

The “Bouvier” was later renamed as “Jackie” after her marriage to Aristotle Onassis. The Jackie features a revamped lock known as the Piston lock – it’s the one that looks like a bullet/whistle.

And now, here are photos of the New Jackie, resurrected from the Gucci archives in 2009 and reinterpreted by Giannini. The additions to the New Jackie are the tassels with the Bamboo detail, and the Selleria stitch – that’s the exposed whipstich along with the comb-stich that hold the canvas to the leather base.
Note: The Selleria stitch is not exclusive to Fendi as I have learned today. Instead, “Selleria” refers to the type of stitching.

Personally, I prefer the New Jackie with the tassels and seller handles. My favourites would have to be the zebra printed one from Cruise 2012, and this one above in the diamantessima jacquard . This particular version of the diamantessima creates a textured feel when touched.
Lastly, here’s a pic of myself and my friend Ms Laydeh at the event .
And since I hardly ever post photos of myself on the blog, or on my Twitter and Instagram (@bagaddictsanon), here’s what I was wearing..
Colour-block pumps: Zara
Sequined dress: Warehouse
Bag: Fendi’s Limited Editon 80th Anniversary bag from the 1925 collection
If you’d like to view the Jackie Special Display, it will be open to the public at the KLCC store from now until May 27th (Sunday).
