Milan Fashion Week : Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2014 Bags

The Verdict: Creative Director Frida Giannini’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection for Gucci features a neutral colour palette with pops of blush, yellow, red and green. And for the bags this upcoming season, Giannini seems to be debuting a new collection in both structured and supple, soft silhouettes : clutches and a small shoulder bag (aka nicknamed the “stewardess” bags) for the former category, and hobos and oversized totes for the latter.  And the one thing they all had in common? The piston locks (some say they are bullet- or whistle- shaped closures) that we first saw on the Jackie bag from the 1960s to the 1980s) and then on the “Piccola”from the 2000s.  Well, I guess this collection was supposed to be inspired by the sixties, it’s only natural that Giannini took the piston detail from that period now, innit? 😉

Compared to the past few seasons (remember the Gucci Noveau from SS14? – the bags with the fringe), Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection is minimalist, classy, and sophisticated. Less is definitely more! Love!! And oh, did you notice that there’s more leather on the runway this season as opposed to strictly exotics (and then some suede for SS14) that seem to be a Gucci catwalk staple of seasons past?
