Fashion Week (Milan): Bottega Veneta F/W 2010
The Verdict: Apart from your regular Bottega Veneta staples such as the woven basket totes and the intreccato woven box clutches with knotted clasp details, it seems as if creative director Tomas Maier has decided to expand and add the slouchy-topped hobo (in the style of Gucci) along with the messenger bag to the existing shapes in Bottega’s catalogue. The sling bag as we see not just with Bottega’s collection (but also with other labels like Gucci), seem to be a spillover trend from S/S 2010 that features prominently on BV’s runway for this year’s upcoming F/W season. New to the house of BV this season is also the use of ombre (as seen on the basket totes and the knotted box clutch). It also seems as if BV’s signature woven style is starting to become a detail on the bags instead of the woven style as the bag itself. I’d much prefer woven details instead of a woven bag, but then again, that’s just me. This F/W 2010 season, a 3-compartment bag and clutch is spotted on the runways, which rather reminded me of Anya Hindmarch’s 3-pocket bag, which was the brand’s IT bag of the F/W 2009 season.
That aside, I have never really taken a liking to BV, so needless to say, there’s nothing much for me to comment on about this collection apart from the interesting choice of colour palette, which is a mixture of coral, blues and emeralds amidst a sea of browns and blacks.
