Gucci Debuts”Off The Grid” Sustainable Collection

In this day and age, environmental consciousness and efforts to reduce our carbon footprints, are of utmost importance. With this in mind, Gucci has launched Gucci Off the Grid, a sustainable collection for Pre-Fall 2020. The collection, comprising an East-West and North-South Tote bag, belt bag, shoudler bag, duffle, backpacks, the Gucci Tennis 1977 sneaker, bucket hats, baseball caps, pouches, wallets, mini bags, as well as unisex ready-to-wear outerwear, utilises ECONYL ®, a regenerated nylon made from oceanic waste as an effort to reduce waste, by putting it back directly into its production process.

All items from the Gucci Off the Grid Capsule features iconic GG web logo. Oh, and it isn’t just the nylon that’s regenerated. For this collection, other components are also made from recycled or environmentally-friendly materials such as metal- and chrome-free tanned leathers, interlining fabrics made from organic cotton or recycled polyester, metal parts and hardware made from recycled lead-free brass alloys and nickel-free finishing employing recycled and RJC CoC certified gold and palladium, discos twill from sustainable raw materials, interlining from regernated material, soles of shoes that utilise bio-based content, accessories made from recycled plastic; sewing thread from recycled polyester, and zippers with recycled polyester tape. The utmost care has also gone into the manufacturing processes, ensuring that solvent-free adhesives are used, as well as the recovery of nylon (Takeback Programme) and leather scraps (Gucci Up Programme). Such measures are taken to lower greenhouse gas emissions, with the offset of the remaining emissions through Gucci’s annual carbon commitment, in support of REDD+ projects to aid in the protection of forests and biodiversity for the conservation of our planet.

Gucci Off the Grid is available in 3 colours – black, orange, and yellow –  and because it’s made of nylon, it’s extremely lightweight, and wearable. All of these come with the dedicated FSC-certified packaging made from recycled paper that are in a natural card colour. In fact, this is something that Gucci had embarked on several years ago. As with all Gucci capsules, they all come with their own seasonal and dedicated capsule packaging. These items are packaged either in a box or accompanying bag made of recycled paper, with pouches also made from recycled nylon in black, orange, and yellow. Boxes are also perforated so that you can have a sneaky peek of the coloured pouch inside.
