Fancy Some Jil Sander Dumplings?

Here’s what Jil Sander has in store for Spring/Summer 2011: Leather Pyramid-shaped wristlets that come in an assortment of bright summery colours.

Although pyramid-shaped wristlets may seem novel and unique, these are rather impractical. Besides, these Jil Sander pyramid-shaped wristlets aren’t really all that novel as it may seem. Chanel did it a few years back in patent leather (sorry I can’t find a photo) but some of you might know which I’m referring to; Gareth Pugh also had a pyramid-shaped wristlet-cum-clutch out last year (shown below).

As for me, I don’t think I’d use any of these because, although I’m a fan of happy colours, they probably look cuter a your girl child rather than on an adult.
But the main reason as to why I would never buy one of these novelty-shaped pyramid wristlets..? Well, they remind me too much of this…..

If you’re wondering what that is, it’s a Chinese glutinous rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaf, traditionally consumed during the annual dumpling festival (on the Chinese lunar calendar) in June (though they’re available all year round). So yes, I wouldn’t want to be carrying a rice dumpling around, whether it is Chanel, Jil Sander, Gareth Pugh, or any other designer that ventures into pyramid-shaped bags/wristlets/clutches. But perhaps I’m only feeling this way because I’m Asian and can’t help noticing the resemblance.

What do YOU think?
