Presenting: Gucci S/S 2010
The Verdict: This S/S 2010, Gucci again utilises few of its staples since time immemorial: the bamboo handle, and the harnessed look. Bamboo is combined with with tassles and exotic croc this time around, while the harnessed details are not what Gucci fans would expect – Giannini still keeps with the “horse” theme, but Gone are the horsebit details that was introduced by Tom Ford that has become synonymous with Gucci. Instead, the horsebit has been replaced by what resemble reins commonly attached to horses (see pics of white bags). Judging from the shows designers have put up for S/S 2010 thus far, exotics, previously a seasonal trend, has now become a super-luxe staple for fashion royalty. Clutches are still very “in” next year, albeit downscaled in size.
I must say that other than the whites and greys in Gucci’s S/S 2010 collection, I was pleasantly surprised. I mean, it’s not common practice for creative director Frida Giannini (as well as the House of Gucci) to feature bright flourescent pieces, albeit in Exotic skins such as croc. Those of you BagAddicts who are regular readers of my former Bagfetish Unleashed!blog will know that I’m a HUGE fan of bold and vibrant colours, especially fuchsia, so I was ecstatic that Gucci (even though I’ve never been a fan of the brand) was stepping up and starting to take risks in their choice in selecting such a vivacious colour palette this upcoming season.
