The Verdict: Burberry’s signature Novacheck seems to be in abundance come S/S 2010. The iconic pattern is flaunted in its original (brown) glory on what seems to be old reissues of the current styles in Novacheck that we see in their boutiques. To be honest, I prefer the extra-large black novacheck instead of the signature brown as it looks less granny-ish. This S/S 2010, however, the brown novacheck seems to be back with a vengeance. The styles it comes in this S/S 2010 seem a little unimaginative and a tad boring, except for the one with the twisted ruched detailing that seems to be Burberry’s key trend in this collection – not only do we see them in Novacheck, but also in a wide array of materials be it in metallic leather, exotic skins (such as croc and python), as well as studded (which again, judging from Marc Jacobs and now Burberry, seems to be a spillover trend from the F/W 2009 season).
At least, in contrast to Marc Jacobs, it is quite obvious that the ruching is the invisible thread that seamlessly weaves this collection together as a whole. I’m indifferent to this collection, but I am definitely loving the mint green pastel colour. As for the Novacheck, I’m quite bored with it.
