Fendi’s Fall/Winter 15 collection by Karl Lagerfeld was one that was truly modernistic in approach – or, in his words, “pleasant aggressivity” – the RTW collection was very boxy, with large panels of leather being stitched together to form outerwear, and dresses. The clothes oozed with geometry, where lines and blocks (and I literally mean square blocks) of colour formed the motifs that were also translated onto the bags. It was then apparent that abstract art was also one of the inspirations for Karl for Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection, specifically that of early-20th-century Swiss artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp which adorned the walls of the show space.

When it came to the bags, it seemed that the Birds of Paradise flower was carried in each of them, be they teeny tiny clutches or the larger Peekaboos. Gone are the feminine embroidered orchid motifs from this year’s Spring/Summer 15, and in its place was an abundance of shearling and fur in the abstract motifs I mentioned above. My favourite though, is the peekaboo clutch and artsy By the Way bags.
