Chanel To Launch “Boy” Collection for Fall 2011

Chanel will debut a new handbag line for Fall 2011. Called the “Boy Collection”, the inspiration behind this range of bags is the hunting cartridge style bags that Coco Chanel herself used to tote around.

If you have seen the films “Coco Chanel” or “Coco Before Chanel”, you’d remember that she shocked society and made fashion history by doing away with flouncy skirts and dresses and replaced them with more comfortable and practical attire, like pants and tweed jackets, which were unheard of and therefore deemed as “masculine” attire during that day and age. Karl Lagerfeld comments that these bags are named as the Boy collection because not only did “Chanel [use] men’s underwear to make dresses; she had this boyish attitude, in fact, it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel, the great love of her life, which, incidentally, explains why the new bag is called the Boy Chanel”.

This exclusive collection will hit stores in September.
