Alexander Wang was certainly feeling a very badass vibe while designing for Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection. Not only did the show open with Mother Monster Lady Gaga’s performance, but it was certainly a very sadomasochistic 50 Shades of Grey and even borderline psychotic show. And no, I’m not talking about the theatrics ala Galliano, but in the materials used for the collection. Sure, there were tweed and cocoon coats, but wire rings, razor blades (finale dress) and staples that were used instead of stitches. I mean, how practical can staple seam substitutes be? 

The bags were structured and stiff. Two new shapes dominated Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 15 runway: a   boxy rectangular bag that all too closely resembles Pierre Hardy’s designs, and a bucket shape (not the sort we’re used to seeing with the drawstring, but something that looks like an actual bucket that you might use while mopping the floors). It seemed to be all about the metal chain details and oh, staple thing that he had going on for the RTW collection was also spotted on the bags, except that it’s actually topstitching that’s made to look like staples. I don’t know about you, but a huge Balenciaga fangirl that I am, Wang’s FW15 collection for Balenciaga really really was, dare I say, an attempt at committing fashion suicide. What say you?
