#MFW: FENDI FW18 Bags Report
On FENDI’s Fall/Winter 18 runway, we saw the usual classic pieces: the Peekaboo, the new Mon Trésor bucket, and the iconic Baguette. Although the silhouettes were the same, some of these bags were slight variations to the current versions.
The Peekaboo (or perhaps its close cousin) came in a more supple, less structured version in suede, with a longer and rounded-off top handle that allows the bag to sit comfortably on the shoulder. There were also what seemed like variants of the Baguette without the FF logo closure, along with (possibly) the Double Baguette with FF hardware on both corners of the front flap and a chain shoulder strap. The Kan-I bag also comes in a top handle style. Of course, there were some seasonal offerings thrown into the mix, like a crossbody mini camera bag. Whether seasonal or classic, I noticed a common denominator between most of the FW18 bags: a circular logo patch with the double FF logo.
Another thing that jumped out at me when watching the runway show, was the coated jacquard logo tote with FENDI ROMA emblazoned on its front. However, with this particular font style of the “F” and the red-and-blue combo, the sportswear brand, Fila, immediately came to mind. I then did some research upon seeing this because there’s no way Karl would unknowingly appropriate something like this into the collection (I spotted this on some of the RTW pieces too). A bit of digging later, and I found out that it was actually a Capsule, and part of a Fila x Fendi collaboration.
In sum, one thing’s for certain is that Karl and Silvia Venturini Fendi are heralding Logomania and the return of coated jacquard at Fendi.
