Paris Fashion Week – Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 14 Bags!

The entire fashion world waited with bated breath for Nicolas Ghesquiere’s (also known as my favourite designer!) debut collection for Louis Vuitton. Held on the last day of Paris Fashion Week as per usual, we really didn’t know what to expect. And when we saw the Vuitton show space, it was definitely not the usual spectacle that we had all been accustomed to after Marc Jacobs’s many years as Creative Director for the Maison. Gone are the fantastical show sets, as Ghesquiere opted for a clean, and quite traditional runway and seating arrangements.

The Verdict: Before going on to discussing Vuitton’s FW14 bags, I’d have to say that I really do miss the usual theatrical show space set-up. I guess from now on, the only one with the extravagantly-themed show sets at Paris Fashion Week would be Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.

And now, on to the bags!

Ghesquiere seemed to have reinterpreted the Vuitton icons like the Alma and the Speedy and given them a facelift. The dome-shaped Alma sported a diamond-motif quilting, including another version with a taller, and more squarish, boxy silhouette. The Boston-shaped Speedy was given a folded in the middle, slightly creased base instead of the usual lay-flat-atop-surface sort along with a removable outer layer kind of like those bag protector sleeves you have for your luggage. And speaking of icons, Ghesquire designed a hard-cased bag that can either be slung cross-body or as a clutch that came in the style of a mini Vuitton trunk. I thought this was super cute, and by far the one I loved the most from the FW14 collection.
