#PFW: Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 18 Bags Report

Louis Vuitton Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière did a stellar job for the Spring/Summer 18 collection with lots of shimmery brocade frock coats ala Marie Antoinette for day and almost Grecian-like red capret-worthy sparkly white and silver dresses with criss-cross backs for evening – all of which were paired with athletic shoes like hi-top sneakers and high-heeled athletic sandals. The bags, in comparison, didn’t quite stand out as much.

The Verdict: Ghesquière infused that sportswear into the SS18 bags as well, especially with the Speedy, Backpack, and Cube-shaped bags that came with harness-like clips and details. Also new, was that Doctor’s bag with the silhouette of a Boston Bag ala the Speedy. The other bags, on the other hand, seemed to mostly be variations of existing Vuitton styles. We see that mini “hat box” like bag that we saw on the Cruise 2018 runway,  a boxier version of the City Steamer, a variant of the saddle-shaped Chain It bag minus the top handle, a Twist in metallic brushed gold with a textured woodgrain-esque motif which now sports a top handle, and of course, the Petite Malle that now comes with the same woodgrain texture, in either metallic gold or silver, with leather-covered trunk corners.
