Brands seem to be flocking to South America for their Cruise 2017 shows! First, it was Chanel in Cuba, and now, Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2017 fashion show venue of choice for the collection presentation is the Mac de Niterói Contemporary Art Museum.

This is the first time ever that the museum has held a fashion show, and it was perfectly understandable why Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière selected this location – the meandering walkway made for a stunning runway. Guests, too, were seated in a meandering fashion, atop what looked like specially made pastel- coloured resin crates or storage boxes, some even with a chequered motif that resonates with Vuitton’s Grand Prix theme for the season.

Ghesquière has been going down the athletic route bit by bit in his previous seasonal collections, but this time he went the whole 9 yards, and I have to say I’m really digging it!

The result? A bright colour palette that was perhaps inspired by the vibrancy and rich colours that Rio is known for. I loved the scuba wetsuit inspired dresses but hey no surprise there since I absolutely ADORE colours, but this time it wasn’t just because of the colours, but also that asymmetric and arch-esque hemlines!

The bags, too got really interesting! There was the rainbow-coloured “Twist” bag, and colourful Speedy bags with that same Grand Prix theme which, I’d say is a rather clever move on Ghesquière’s part to integrate the chequered flag motif from motorsports races, onto the bags as well because this is something that is already very closely associated with Vuitton (think: Damier).

The showstopper was of course the Boombox bag, which is a new take on the Maison’s trunks. Luxe ghetto with a distinct cool factor, but I don’t know how practical they’d actually be though, in real life? Hmm…
