Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 16 Runway & Bags Report

By now, you would’ve watched the Louis Vuitton Resort 16 show that was streamed LIVE from Palm Springs, California right here on the blog.  The show opened with gongs that are usually rung at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The show began on time [thanks Marc Jacobs for setting that precedent!] but also perhaps a strategic move on Ghesquiere’s part, so that the show venue would be bathed in that yellow glow just before sunset. We see the models coming out onto the balcony, and descending the stairs. We see the first model emerging from the glass doors where guests are seated, with headphones on, only to put them down and crank up the volum, signalling the start of the show as  the soundtrack to the runway show began playing.

Thus began the onset of  eyelet dresses, super micro shorts, oversized zip details, mesh, maxi skirts, and a criss-cross belted front that seemed to be his favourite for the Cruise 16 season. And to tie in with the whole Palm Springs location, Ghesquiere even used a palm leaf print for some of the looks and bags.

Ah, the bags. Also known as my favourite topic. Of course, the Petite Malle (which I LOVE!) came in more variations (there’s a studded version now!!), and more of the mini trunk cases that we saw on Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 15 runway.  And then there was a structured tote bag which kinda looked like a cross between a Prada Galleria with the double zips and a Birkin, but that aside, there were also mini backpacks in the signature Vuitton monogram as well as bags with bulbous quilts with studded accents. In short, since Ghesquiere took over at the helm of Vuitton, his bags are making me want a Vuitton piece more and more these days. Oh, and that revamped LV logo? Such a GENIUS idea to have the “L” as a turnlock clasp so that it you can only see a “V” (because the “L” morphs into a “V”) when the clasp is unfastened!
