DiorClub1 Sunglasses

You may remember seeing the models coming down Dior‘s Spring/Summer 18 runways with visors that looked a little like those that women wear on the golf course. Or, at least that’s what I thought they were when I initially saw them on the catwalk. But, guess what? They aren’t just regular visors, because they actually serve a dual purpose, as a form of protective eyewear (read: sunglasses).

Yes, you read that right, and no, your eye’s aren’t playing tricks on you. Called the DiorClub1, these sunnies have the inscriptions “J’ADIOR” on the front, along with the name “CHRISTIAN DIOR”, woven in capital letters on the rear elastic band that allows for a perfect fit against your head.

So… why a visor? Well, that’s because Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri took inspiration from Niki De Saint Phalle’s (her muse for the SS18 collection), series of experimental work, Les Tirs, also known as  the artist’s “shooting paintings”. To create this work of art, Saint Phalle actually wore protective eyewear for her live art performances where she uses a rifle to shoot at paint-filled balloons.

These DiorClub1 visors come in vibrant shades like orange, yellow, and blue, as well as a more neutral hue, in grey.
