Dior will be releasing their latest coffee table book, Dior by Avedon. As the title suggests, the book features the iconic photography of Richard Avedon for Maison Dior. These include a model in a New Look suit, Monsieur Dior's lifelong friend Christian Bérard, Twiggy caught in a mid-flamenco dance, Marlene Dietrich lighting a cigarette, Audrey Hepburn walking along Paris's cobblestoned streets and on the dance floor at Maxims, Dovima in the Soirée de Paris evening gown from 1955 between 2 elephants. All these photos, featured alongside Monsieur Dior's sketches.
As Olivier Saillard, the fashion historian and director of Palais Galleria Fashion Museum of the City of Paris comments in the afterword:
This communion [between the work of Christian Dior and that of Richard Avedon] penned the golden age of fashion photography, which advanced without any artifice save determination, at a time when shooting without a safety net transformed photographers and their lines into puckish acrobats
Published by Rizzoli, Dior by Avedon will be released in France on September 23, with USA and UK to follow on November 24th
