In comparison to the artsy prints and candy coloured Quality Street sweet wrapper trench coats from past seasons, Christopher Bailey certainly toned things down for the Men's Spring/Summer 16 collection. He presented a rather minimalist and simple collection, with men all suited up (albeit in lightweight trenches instead of the usual blazers), and skinny ties fastened around their shirt collars. The new document portfolio-esque bag called "The Barrow" that resembles the cross body briefcase in the existing collection in store, and shoes that were either tasseled loafers or lace-up oxfords (with cap-toe in a contrasting colour that was optional) completed the look. And, in line with what seemed like a return to a minimalist, tailored (though with a looser fit) Savile Row aesthetic, simplicity was also reflected in the earthy colour palette, accented with pops of mustard, blue, and red. The zebra, tiger and giraffe prints were few and far between, and so was the floral-patterned lace that was seen hidden beneath the trenches.
Also, for the first time ever, Christopher Bailey also sent women down the Menswear runway in the Pre-Spring 16 collection. Here, we saw lots of lace in the same floral motif as the men's SS16 collection in a similar earthy colour palette in black, white, nude, honey, apple green, sugar pink (think blush), with accessories such as the Bucket Backpack in zebra-printed calfskin and laser-cut lattice motif booties to complete the look.
