Cartier’s Latest Pieces Debut @ Watches & Wonders Hong Kong 2014

I’ve always had a secret love for Cartier’s elegantly designed watches, right down to its feel on my wrist. For Cartier, it has always been about bringing life into its luxury timepieces and jewellery. Known for their creative watchmaking, this year Cartier has recently released 68 pieces for the annual Watches & Wonders 2014 exhibit held in Hong Kong, 16 of which are new inventions, including 2 new calibers and 4 gorgeous one-of-a-kind High Jewellery creations.

Pasha de Cartier Skeleton Dragon Motif Watch

Pasha de Cartier 42mm Skeleton Dragon Motif Watch

Cartier’s new line-up for the Pasha de Cartier series depicts a bold yet dynamic stance with an intricate skeletal dragon-motif to link the House’s first ties with China since 1888. The intricate dragon set in 233 brilliant-cut diamonds and a marquise-cut tsavorite embodies the creature’s prestigious impression with a calibre 9617 MC manual winding movement; a definite head-turning piece. The 42mm white gold diamond-set casing comes in three versions: black alligator skin strap, and the two others in white gold bracelet links set with brilliant or baguette cut diamonds, all individually numbered.

This would be the perfect Chinese New Year piece that would add some lively sparkle to the festivities!

Rotonde de Cartier Second Time-Zone Day/Night Calibre 1904-FU MC

Next in line is the understated boldness of the Rotonde de Cartier. Simple but a statement maker, something which even I, a female with small wrists would covet for.

The men’s 42mm Rotonde de Cartier series has expanded with a new 1904-FU MC self-winding movement, evolved over several years, to incorporate a day/night indication, a second time-zone, a large date and small seconds into a single push piece. This mechanism is a first in Cartier’s watchmaking department, all developed at the Cartier Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Its engraved scalloped face, also known as flinque, contrasts beautifully with the bold Roman numerals; giving it a subtly classy presence. Strapped in alligator skin, it comes in a silver flinqued dial flanked with either rose or white gold case or a sapphire face finished in white gold.

To be given a choice, I would pair up the rose gold option with a sleek blouse and slacks for a chic weekend breakfast or tea session with the girls.

Cartier High Jewellery

Four unique pieces from the High Jewellery line tops it all. Bedazzling watches in glittering diamonds and exceptionally cut precious gems are the best adornment to an outfit for special events. Cartier, with its great precision in haute joaillerie making, presents one-of-a-kind stunning pieces, from modern and abstract lines to splendid sparkly wildlife wrist candy. These are definite works of art by master jewellery craftsmen who work with gem cutters to cut, choose and set the right gem for the uber exclusive piece of perfection. Below is one of the four special pieces: a watch with a 16.28 carat cushion cut yellow sapphire and gradated obdisian stone and a watch with a snake motif in different hues of yellow sapphire.

Watch with Yellow Sapphire and Obsidians

There was nothing shy of glitz and glamour with Cartier’s display at the annual Watches & Wonders 2014. For me, I think either the deep blue face in white gold or silver dial rose gold Rotonde is up my alley for a daily watch that oozes elegance. It would definitely be a tough decision to make!
