Event Post: Gucci's Icons of Heritage Exhibit and "The Director" FilmScreening

Archival Jackie bags

It was a night down memory lane with Gucci's Icons of Heritage Exhibit at Pavilion last Friday (September 5th). Lined up were archival Jackie bags from the Gucci Museo, narrating its birth and history of this iconic bag. It was made famous in the 1960s by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, which is why this Gucci classic was initially known as the Bouvier bag, honouring her maiden name.

Some Jackies up close:

My personal fave: The Multicolour Dolphin print fabric and blue leather from the 1970s.

In 2009, it was revived from the Gucci archives by the House's Creative Director Frida Giannini, as the New Jackie. Finished in plush skins such as crocodile, python and the likes, the redesigned New Jackie made a successful comeback as the classic hobo. It makes another stunning return for the Fall/Winter 2014 - 2015 collection in a softer and oversized silhouette, and with none other than Kate Moss as the new face of the Soft Jackie. I am already in love with its new look!

To top the night, Gucci had a private screening of  "The Director", a film by Christina Vonos and produced by James Franco, about the life of Frida Giannini, Gucci's Creative Director. This documentary takes us behind-the-scenes with Frida, as we get to witness how she works with her team to create the upcoming looks for the next season's concepts, from runway setup, to choosing the right models for the runway (particularly evident for the Men's collections), right down to the correct ruffle for a particular style for the women's RTW collection. Seeing the creative process of the fashion world reminds me how similar it is to my experience in the product development and design fields. For those interested to have a glimpse of the fashion world, this is a film you should watch (watch out for the film at a GSC near you soon!)
