Spring/Summer 2013 Bag Predictions: The Top 5

Hello lovelies, here's another post that I did for  Tongue in Chic last month, and I thought I'd share with you :)

Ah, Spring – a fresh start to an entirely new year of the Fashion Calendar. The season that marks the beginning of new trends along with some older trends that have managed to weather the fashion seasons. Fads will surface, It Bags will rise to superstardom and new Classics will be born. In no particular order, here are the bags that we’re likely to see celebs and the fashionable set clamour over come Spring/Summer 2013.

 Mulberry Willow Tote

Mulberry‘s It bag for the S/S ’13 season, the buzz created by the brand was so great that we got to see images of the Willow tote before it could even hit the brand’s S/S ’13 runway in September during London Fashion Week. The epitome of functional fashion, the Willow is sure to be a big hit come March – what with Kate Moss’ stamp of approval already on it. The best part? You’d be getting two bags for the price of one – the front envelope pocket is fully detachable so that you can use it as a clutch!

 Louis Vuitton Monceau BB Vernis

Revived from the Louis Vuitton archives, but much smaller than the original Monceau, meet the new Monceau BB in Vernis. This mini briefcase-like bag can either be worn cross-body, or as a top handle bag with the shoulder strap detached. Ever since its global launch on January 1st, this bag is already sold out in KL (well, except for its two display pieces), with people already putting their names on the list in anticipation for the next shipment arrival. Since 2013 is dubbed as the “Year of the Small Bag”, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Monceau BB is going to be the next waitlisted bag, where demand far outweighs supply. Available in four colours Vert (Olive), Rose Velours (Pale Pink), Rose Indienne (Fuchsia) and Amarante (Dark Maroon) for RM5,350 exclusively at Louis Vuitton @ Star Hill Gallery.

 Alexander Wang Pelican Satchel

Launched over Autumn/Winter 2012, Alexander Wang‘s Pelican Satchel exudes a more ladylike polished vibe compared to the Studded Rocco Duffel. Its clean lines makes it the ultimate contemporary modern classic that’s certainly not at all a flight of fancy, but something that has the ability to transcend time. Available in calfskin in the Oversized Weekender version for RM3,990 at the Club21 Multilabel store, Pavilion KL.

 Céline Edge

Céline‘s latest offering from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection is the new Edge bag. While it hasn’t yet quite caught on with the celeb crowd the way that both the Luggage Tote and the Trapeze have, I have no doubt that it will soon catch up with its predecessors because, after all, Phoebe Philo, is the woman with the golden touch – especially when it comes to designing bags of It Bag calibre.

 Proenza Schouler PS11 Clutch

This fashion wünderkind can do no wrong, especially when it comes to its accessories line. From the design duo who practically kick-started Satchel Fever with the debut of its PS1 bag, followed by the PS11 (which I personally prefer) that created an even greater cult following, the latest addition to the existing PS11 family is this PS11 clutch/wristlet with a detachable wrist strap that was first introduced in Proenza Schouler’s Resort 2013 collection recently. This is going to do extremely well in this Planet Fashion this year, given everyone’s recent obsession with clutches and portfolios.

 Chanel Lego Clutch

While I find Chanel‘s Spring/Summer 2013 Hula Hoop Flap bag a little too bizarre, impractical and kitschy, nothing quite says arm candy like the Lego clutch. While it looks more like the Duplo (children’s version of Lego), don’t be fooled because this clutch isn’t at all child’s play but a collector’s piece, and not to mention, Anna Dello Russo-worthy. I’m sure we’ll see all the different candy colours beautifully nestled in many a fashion editor’s palm, especially it seems to have been made available in other variations for Fall/Winter 2013. This collector's piece is available at Chanel for a whopping RM 32,660 !!
