Men’s Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2013 Bags

The Verdict: So we’re beginning to see backpacks on the Men’s runways quite a bit for Fall/Winter 2013. But apart from stating in the obvious, Kim Jones (the creative director for Louis Vuitton’s mens line) seems to be, in very many ways, going back to the very roots that Vuitton was founded upon: luggage and trunks. Not only do we see trunks being carried around like backpacks, but the bags with the top handles that resemble one side of a handcuff in both leather and felt? Its silhouette seems as if he’s taken inspiration from the Vuitton archives, particularly the Steamer (shown below), which he has updated for the Fall/Winter 2013 season.

The geometric “V” that you see in Gaston-Louis Vuitton’s bag was actually the precursor to the Vuitton monogram, and was on all of the Vuitton founder’s possessions. And for Fall/Winter 2013, that “V” is most definitely an element that seems to play a very prominent part in this collection.
