Fashion Week (Milan): Prada F/W 2010

The Verdict: Usually, although both Miu Miu and Prada are designed by Miuccia Prada herself, she makes a conscious effort to ensure that both brands are distinctly different in terms of their designs. However, that design philosophy has clearly been thrown out the window for this F/W 2010 season as we can very clearly see observe spillover trends: both Miu Miu and Prada sport patent bags with oversized turnlock closures in this collection. I know that I’ve commented that Miu Miu’s F/W 2010 is rather tacky but somehow, their sister on the Prada runway appears less tacky, perhaps due to the contrast trimmings. Apart from that, the braided leather tri-coloured bags remind me of old-school knitted cardigans. In fact, I used to own a cardi/pullover similar to that back in the day.
That aside, I do like the idea that Prada is starting to use prints on their nylon bags (my favourite is still the python printed nylon bag with the oversized bows from S/S 2009). Croc trims on nylon (see pics above) definitely exude a more “classy” vibe. However, Miuccia has to be very careful when playing with printed nylon – it’s definitely a risk. I mean, I’m sure the last thing she wants is for the bag to look like a LeSportsac rip-off.

Anyhoo, this F/W 2010 is wayy better than their transparent bags from S/S 2010.
